Retirement of Chief Executive Officer Hendrik Visser

It is with a degree of regret that on behalf of the Board of Balgowlah RSL Memorial Club I wish to inform Members & Staff that our CEO, Hendrik Visser has decided to retire which is effective 13 May,2022.

Hendrik made a significant contribution on the Club for more than 20 years and has been not only instrumental in the growth of the Clubs business but also has overseen multiple renovations to ensure the Club continued to be relevant, which is a key focus of the Clubs Strategic Plan. Hendrik’s vision in seeking Board support for the highly successful Wine Room is just one example of his ability to think outside the square in the interest of Members.

It is also fair to say that Hendrik steered the Club though some very difficult times. The most recent being COVID 19 which saw the Club close for a considerable period of time. Behind the scenes Hendrik worked closely during this time with the Board and was able to guide the Club through some very stormy weather.

As the CEO for two decades Hendrik has infused passion and commitment to the heart of this Club recognising and responding to the continuing challenges to the club industry over this period.

Responding to the changing needs of the members and guests has been a strength that has seen the Club continue to grow and prosper. His interactions with members and guests was always cordial and warm.

It is difficult to do justice in describing the impact that Hendrik has had on this Club. I know that we will all like to wish him and his family all the very best with the next chapter of his life.

The Board will commence the hiring in due course, however, In the interim period Lawson Job will be the acting CEO.
